An interesting vulnerability in IE can be exploited to make an arbitrary executable be placed in the startup folder. I like the clever delivery mechanism.. very tricky. The vulnerability still exists in Windows XP Service Pack 2. This page has a neat list of fixed and unfixed vulnerabilities in IE6. There’s also one for Firefox, if you’d like to compare ;) .
If someone who runs IE can find the proof of concept and test it, let me know, I’m curious.
(Thanks to Mike Paul for the link)

Hmm… have I recommended FireFox on here before?

I have a new user picture for my journal. It comes from this picture. Maybe I won’t like it in the morning, but it’s good enough for 3am. I should go to bed now.

I’ve uploaded Doug’s pictures from exec week as well as a few from Rhode Island.

I was seriously so horrified by this picture that I had to blur my face. I looked like I had given birth to septuplets, lost a boxing match, and stayed awake for well over a month straight. That was a really disturbing picture, potentially worse than goatse (DO NOT INVESTIGATE THAT if you don’t know what it is already).

I added a syndicated feed for to my friends list. I didn’t know Karl well until the last week, besides hearing about him through other people. He wrote some cool stuff about his experiences at band camp as a psuedo-frosh.

Classes technically begin today, but I have Mondays and fridays off. Lots of stuff on my TODO for the day, though.

What started off as a substandard night ended pretty well. After late food shopping and dinner, I was working on reassembling my server (breaking more things in the process… I’m so bad with hardware). Eventually Doug, Emily, Will and Amy VB stopped by the house to visit. We ended up watching some SNL skits and hanging out for a while. I cancelled my sax concert due to inclement weather. It was a great break from house work for me… I didn’t want to go anywhere with a huge group.

Backtracking a bit, Mike Pillsbury visited yesterday and today. We went with Mike B to BrewWorks last night and with Mike C to Goosey Gander today. He seems to be doing pretty well, I’m glad he came to visit. Also gave me a chance to spend some time with Mike B and Mike C who I haven’t seen too often, lately.

Band Camp

Band camp went really well, overall. Most of the problems we had either weren’t major or were things that happen every year. Uppers, execs and frosh all seemed to have a good time, from the reactions I’ve heard. I was exhausted pretty much the whole time, and visibly overwhelmed from time to time, but it ran smoothly in general.

Although we only had 43 people at camp, the band sounded really good. Our percussion is great now, and the sound we’re creating as a whole is very strong. Marching is coming along well. The freshman class is for the most part very good… they seem to be bonding well with the rest of us and each other. The people we have are great, we just need more of them. Hopefully word of mouth will bring in a few more. They have to be out there. If you’re reading this and would consider joining for the season, get in touch with me.

Should be a good season.

I’m not in a great mood tonight… lots to do, my room has been a mess, the dishwasher broke, and I’m behind on everything, it seems. I wish I could spend this time with people, but I really need to catch up. But, I do have some good news: I just saved a bunch of money on my textbooks.
