I’ve been taking periodic late-night walks through campus lately, and I’m starting to like them. They provide me with time to catch up on my thoughts, or escape them. I never choose a route ahead of time, nor do I have a target time to return. Tonight was a good walk, but I went too early for a weekend night, so there were a fair amount of people out. They were all dressed in generally uninspired costumes, trying to figure out where the next party was. My favorite line of the night:
Some Guy: Hey, can you take a picture of us?
Me: Do you have a camera?
Some Guy: No.
I often used running for this purpose in the past, but the nice thing about walking is that it can be done without worrying what or how recently I ate, and I don’t need to shower.

Wow, I went three days without posting.. it has probably been one of the most tumultuous weeks of my life, but I’m sure everything will work out ok.
So after a ridiculous amount of procrastination, I finally got working on my Minix project for Operating Systems. I couldn’t get bochs to work in debian with minix, so I swallowed my pride and did the work on Windows on my laptop. Everything was going fine until I realized that the ‘i’ key on my laptop doesn’t seem to work anymore. It’s hard to type ‘make install’ like that. I just can’t win.
The day took a turn for the better.. strangely enough at the choir rehearsal which I expected to be stressful. I had a good time just hanging out, not worrying about work, and jamming on the clarinet with friends. It’s good to know I can still escape.
This week I’m feeling more stress about almost every aspect of my life than ever before. All the storms are meeting and I can’t escape. I’m feeling physical effects of it, and I just don’t have the time for worrying. It’s not even that I’m overextended, it’s just that most of the things I’m doing are going poorly or will be going poorly.
Football vs. Bucknell was today.. Alumni Band Day (and Young Alumni Weekend). I think everything went pretty well… I was nervous at first with the alumni band sitting right next to us, but I think it worked out well. They seemed to enjoy sitting there, and I think it was worthwhile despite being a bit more difficult on our end. I got to play Hogan’s Heroes during the third quarter with the alumni band! That was definitely the high point of the game for me, since I don’t get to play that with other people anymore since it’s not in our stands folders. Michelle and I sounded pretty good.
The turnout was great for alumni, it was good to see.. I hope I’ll be able to come back once I graduate. Sarah did a good job with all the alumni stuff, and managed to not look as stressed as I did last year. I enjoyed not having to worry about all that stuff this time, although the game was a bit more hectic than usual.
Hobo band is tomorrow, I still need to put together my costume. The next week will be terribly busy. I just want to skip it.
Considering I have 0 classes tomorrow, I can’t believe how busy I am. I have something scheduled for every hour from 11 through the end of the night and no time for a real break. This weekend is alumni weekend, so I’m hoping a lot of them will be at Jack’s party, plus I’ll get to see them at/after the game. So that’ll be another long day, and Sunday is the Hobo Band parade, which should be a lot of fun. My costume is going to be Robert Goulet, I’m really excited. Actually, the costume is really Will Ferrell as Robert Goulet.
I’m really going to miss this band season once it’s over, but I also can’t wait for Thanksgiving and not having to worry about as much. My plate is full, I feel like I’m operating near capacity while maintaining sanity and having a generally good time.
If the Sox and the Cardinals are both in the world series, I think I’ll be lending my Cardinals hat to a Yankees fan (as long as they don’t sweat a lot). All that talk of curses is very stupid, time to end it.
What a comeback, though.
I added a wiki to magicspatula today. Not that I had a pressing need for it, but it’s nice to have one handy in case I want to whip up a document to share really quickly. I edited the main template since the phpwiki default is horribly ugly.
