Quote of the week from last night:
Me: It’s been a long week.
Scott VP: Um, it’s only Tuesday.
That about sums it up.
Living in a house full of Yankees fans, I haven’t watched too much of the ALCS, but I’ve kept track of it game to game (and sometimes pitch by pitch online). The NY Times has a good article about tonight’s game, it has been great to see the team come back. I can’t see the team making it to the world series and winning, then again the Cardinals and Astros haven’t been looking too convincing lately either. I won’t claim to be an expert, though.
I’ve been making an effort to not make fun of yankees fans unless provoked.. if anyone knows the pain of defeat it’s a sox fan.
I woke up at least 30 minutes before my alarm today, allowing me to put in some more time before my philosophy presentation, but making me even more tired. I haven’t quite been sick lately, but I’ve felt a general malaise… like a very slight fever and headache. Not severe enough to treat or to skip any activities, but enough to drag me down. More sleep would be nice, but I don’t have that scheduled until Thanksgiving break.
Also, I think I’m beginning to dislike Winter, which means I’m starting to become a crotchety old man. With that said, there are still few things I find more beautiful than fresh snowfall.
I don’t think I’ve turned in one of my OS homeworks in on time… they’re always such a pain and I somehow find a lot to be doing on Sundays (or at least distract myself with). I’m pretty sure I’m doing well in the class, though.. I’m keeping up.
Jon Stewart was on CNN’s Crossfire recently… it was one of the best things I’ve ever seen. I can’t recommend it enough. here are some resources about it, including a bittorrent link for downloading the video. Ridiculously worth it.
I’m going to watch it again.
I was thinking about this last night but was too tired to write about it.
I’ve come to appreciate music much more in the last couple of years. I think music piracy is an important part of this. I’m very hesitant to try new things (especially when they cost money), so buying a CD is a big commitment (when you’re in high school and have little money). Since I generally despise listening to music on the radio, my contact with different styles of music was very limited. I would only by CDs when I got a gift certificate, and I’d buy ones from which I had already heard a few songs for some reason. I listened to about 5 CDs for years, and obviously got really tired of them.
About a year and a half ago, I decided to make a conscious effort to find new music and try things out. I asked my friends what they listened to, and downloaded a whole bunch of music. I also talked with Peyton a lot about music, and he gave me some good recommendations, plus a couple from my brother. It’s been a great change and now I never do much of anything without music on.
Interestingly, I almost always listen to music by the album. I don’t make mixes and I generally don’t mix artists. Soulseek makes it really easy to acquire music by the album, which has facilitated this behavior.
I should revise my work habits a bit since I’m about to get fewer than 5 hours of sleep now.
A new acronym for your use on AIM: LLOL.
“Legitimately Laughing Out Loud”
You can use this whenever you literally make an audible reaction to humor in the conversation (through the larynx, knee slapping doesn’t count just because it makes a sound). Misuse of this acronym is punishable by death (of a thousand cuts!).
The motivation behind this is that it allows those who belt out a hearty chuckle from time to time to indicate such reactions to others without worrying about the “devaluation” of LOL.
Air Force investigating antimatter weapons… because you can only do so much with matter.
