Geraldine Ferraro

So, if you don’t have any contact with politics, here’s the recent quote of note, from Geraldine Ferraro (of the Clinton campaign):

“If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position and if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is.”

This quote has been run all over the place, and Ferraro has left the campaign, but the quote really bothers me. It’s not the race issue, but the fact that she didn’t use the subjunctive. Every time they use that quote, the error becomes more glaring..
