Boston Creme Cake
Michelle’s recent post reminded me to post things about cooking, so here’s a bit about a recent adventure.. mostly in the form of complaints.
John and I decided to make Boston Creme Cake (or pie, but it seems like it should be cake) on Saturday. The recipe from the food network said that the prep time was 10 minutes, but this was a COMPLETE LIE. Maybe if you had the recipe memorized and all of the ingredients measured and everything… it seems like 10 minutes is a lower bound on the amount of prep time needed. Plus “1 cup heavy cream, boiling” seems like an unfair ingredient description to me. I know you can have ingredients like “1 carrot, chopped” and stuff, but that you can prepare ahead of time, boiling the cream is time-sensitive, so it should be listed with the chronological parts of the recipe.
Anyway, the result was quite good. The filling had a good consistency and flavor. The chocolate thinner than I would have liked, so I’d recommend reducing the amount of cream that goes in the topping (or increase chocolate, if you dare!). Here’s the final product:
